Ancient Mathematics
Mathematics of the ancient world, prior to 500 AD. I know that's a little late, but the works of 3rd C. Diophantus are really a remnant of the ancient world.

Mathematics History
Mathematics historiography. Any period is acceptable. Just keep in mind that we're finitists, so we're not going to be that interested in Cantor, Dedekind, Russel, Peano, Tarski, and that lot.

Web Software Review
Reviews and discussion of major website creation software. Examples are Wordpress, gallery software, phpBB. This forum is for presenting educated opinion on the software in question. Trashing software is quite alright so long as you have some perspective. Newbies welcome. The forum is not for debugging, configuration, problem solving, or things of that nature.

Scientific Software Review
There are a number of scientific software packages that work and some that don't really serve a purpose, other than to deceive people into thinking they are useful. This forum is for separating the two, listing weaknesses and strengths from direct experience with these packages. Please post reviews of software intended for scientific data analysis, plotting, display, modeling, interaction, statistical analysis, etc. Any branch of science is acceptable so long as the package can be used by that branch. If there is any doubt, please indicate which branches of scientific investigation or engineering are associated with the package.

Video/Music
I'm getting sick of bad multimedia software. Let's hear about the good stuff (hopefully) that runs on Linux.

Microscopy
Discussion of microscopy results and/or techniques

Obvious Trash that should be Vigorously Ignored (OT2VI)
Scientific articles that have significant problems. Not necessarily junk science; more like junk conclusions.

Philosophy of Perception

Science
Prefer to cover ancient world and Renaissance eras. But, all eras of history are welcome if the topic is interesting.

Technology
Discussions of how technology evolves, how it draws from social life, how it contributes to it, and in general all the technical details. This forum is for detailed viewpoints, not 10,000 ft viewpoints.

C++
Anything and everything related, including assembly & C, linking, libs, tools, etc.

Linux System Config/Programming
Remember, Linux is the only OS of any relevance. Windows is moribund and trying to grab Linux. MacOS isn't even their own. BSD doesn't exist. Thus, any proposed solutions should ignore anything but Linux and OpenVMS.

Scientific Toolkits & Programs
Primarily for model creation and simulation in any field. Let's also cover image analysis here, since it's usually in toolkit form.

Analysis & Plotting
There are many scientific data analysis & plotting packages out there. Most of them don't work well. Please cover special features, tips, tricks, etc. Maybe even programming & end user help. For reviews, see the Scientific Software Review forum.

Graphics Toolkits
Discussion of graphical display systems: gtk+, Qt, Crazy Eddie's, Ogre, Unreal Engine, etc.

XFCE
